Judicial service—an extension of the noble calling of our legal profession—represents the highest form of service to justice, the legal profession, and the public. A fair, impartial, independent, and well-supported judiciary is indispensable to both our democracy and to the rule of law. The Judicial Section exists to help Texas judges be their best through information, resources, and collaboration—always in the interest of justice.
Our 2025–2026 Motto
Advancing Justice Together is our theme and guiding principle for 2025–2026. We recognize that, although we serve on different benches across diverse areas of Texas, the law is the same everywhere. When judges collaborate on case management, share insights on applying the law, and develop processes to uphold the highest ethical standards, we are truly advancing justice together.
Legislative Updates
The Judicial Section of the State Bar of Texas remains a vital resource for our state’s judiciary—closely monitoring legislative developments that impact Texas courts, serving as a trusted resource to lawmakers, and leading efforts to ensure appropriate and sustainable funding for the Texas judiciary. By maintaining active engagement within the judiciary and between branches of government, the Section keeps judges informed about new laws and proposed changes that affect court operations and judicial independence—all in the best interest of justice and its administration.
Ethics Opinions
The Section’s Ethics Committee provides valuable guidance on issues submitted by judges. These opinions—whether informal or written—are advisory and available on the Section’s website. Judges can easily search the collection of opinions online as a resource for ethical reflection and decision-making.
Collaboration and Synergy
Looking to connect with a colleague? The Section’s “Find a Judge” feature on our website allows members to locate fellow judges throughout the state. Access is limited to Section members, and only publicly available information is shared—no private data is disclosed.
Judicial Sidebar
Judicial Sidebar is a new platform that brings judges together within specific practice areas. As new laws create new questions, this forum allows judges to exchange insights, discuss real-world challenges, and share practical solutions and applications. Judicial Sidebar strengthens collaboration across jurisdictions—and, ultimately, advances justice through shared wisdom and experience.

This year’s flagship initiative is the Judicial Section Toolkit—a practical, bench-card–style resource spanning multiple areas of law, including:
